I never met a spreadsheet I didn’t like.
Based in Oakland, I have worked in the field of accounting for over 15 years and as a CPA in private practice since 2018.
I cut my accounting teeth shortly after graduating from UC Santa Cruz working as a freelance bookkeeper, serving a variety of small businesses throughout the Bay Area.
Eventually, my curiosity about public policy got the best of me and I took a position with the Alameda County Auditor-Controller Agency where my day-to-day mission was to ensure stewardship of public funds. During this time, I received my M.S. in Accountancy from Golden Gate University and, eventually, my CPA license.
My entrepreneurial spirit never left me while working in local government and I continued to maintain a small freelance practice, primarily composed of law firms in need of help with managing and reporting funds held in client trust accounts. I also continued to read and learn about tax law and personal finance, eventually moving into the world of tax preparation and planning. As my confidence grew, so did my client base, and before long, I had cornered the market of Facebook Mom Groups.
My wedding cake said “Married Filing Jointly”.
I read about tax policy and personal finance when I want to relax.
I have kept a detailed record of every dollar I’ve made and spent since 2006.
I’m really fun at parties.
I was born and raised in the East Bay and I want everyone to love it here as much as I do.
I married a Washington D.C. transplant who once told me that Oakland was a suburb of San Francisco, but I love her anyway. We have an awesome kid born in June of 2017 with whom we spend a lot of time stomping around the East Oakland hills.
I’m still a policy wonk at heart, but after 11 years spent in the County Administrative Building, I missed the variety and the flexibility that came with working for myself. I was also excited at the prospect of getting to work directly with members of my community and spend more time deepening my knowledge of tax code application. In 2020, I decided to take my side-hustle full-time. When I’m not researching tax issues or combing through trust accounts, I love gardening, weightlifting, riding bikes, and building things.
